Daily Maintenance of a Hot Tub

There are tasks that you should do every day to keep your hot tub in pristine condition.

Test Your Water Chemistry

First, you should test your water chemistry, and you can do this by either using test strips or a test kit with DPD1 and Phenol Red test tablets.

You should check the chlorine or bromine levels (if necessary). These should be as follows:

- Chlorine: 2.0 to 5.0ppm

- Bromine: 4.0 to 6.0ppm

You should also check the pH levels and adjust if necessary; the ideal level is between 7.4 to 7.6.

Clean the Waterline

You should also clean the waterline every day, and this can be done by using our Pool Clean product. It is formulated with a low percentage of hydrochloric acid, so it is important that you avoid metal surfaces. But it is very effective in removing limescale and other build-ups.

Weekly Maintenance of a Hot Tub

Once a week, you should complete the following tasks to avoid build-up and keep your water clear and clean.

Shock Treatment

Every week you should do a shock treatment to help prevent any water problems; you can use either non-chlorine shock granules or granular shock.

Add Water Treatments

Then, you can go ahead and add ‘No Foam’ to help control foaming and ‘Spa Sparkle’ to keep your water crystal clear.

Hose Down Filters

Finally, it is essential that you hose down filters, making sure you get in between each plant to avoid any build-up. We sell the ‘Estelle Filter Cleaner’ which uses waterpower to clean the filters and doesn’t use chemicals, making it environmentally friendly.

Monthly Maintenance of a Hot Tub

Giving the hot tub filter cartridges a deep clean is a task that isn’t required as frequently and can instead be done once a month. There are three steps to the deep clean to ensure you have covered all areas:

- Remove filters and install the replacement filters.

- Hose down the used filters thoroughly.

- Then, you should soak them in a bucket of ‘Filter Cartridge Cleaner’ for 24 hours and then let them completely dry before putting them back in.

Every 6 to 12 Weeks Maintenance of a Hot Tub

Between the period of every six to 12 weeks, you should add ‘Gold Horizons - Spa Super Cleanse’ to your hot tub to clean the spa and pipes. To do this, you should remove the filters and pour it into the water.

Then, you can turn on the pump at high speed for one hour with the air controls closed. Finally, you should drain the hot tub and refill with your Lay-Z-Spa chemicals as normal.
