Swimming Pool Party Themes and Ideas

Some things are meant to be enjoyed together and there’s no better way for you to enjoy your swimming pool this summer than with a pool party!

We’re going to be exploring some things to consider if you’re looking to throw an incredible pool party. But before you can start planning your perfect party, you need to make sure your pool is ready.

At 1st Direct Pools, we offer a wide range of pool maintenance products including swimming pool chemicals, to ensure your pool is crystal clear and looking its best for your party.

Pool Party Themes

Once you’ve got your pool in tip-top condition, it’s time to decide the theme of your pool party. This is a crucial step because it will help you organise all the other aspects of your pool party and have a huge impact on the atmosphere.

You can stick with water-related themes like:

  • - Pirates
  • - Luau/Tiki
  • - Beach
  • - Jaws

Or, you can steer away from the ordinary with an Olympics themed pool party.

Pool Party Decorations

Once you’ve got your theme nailed, you can get started on decorations!

Obviously, you want your swimming pool to be the main event, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spruce things up a little! Simple is better when it comes to pool parties as you don’t want anything elaborate being damaged should it get splashed or - god forbid - fall into the pool!

Some simple decor that works for most themes could be:

  • - Balloons of varying colours and sizes.
  • - Paper garlands.
  • - Paper lanterns.
  • - Table ornaments.

You can even add a little decor to your pool with decorations or inflatable pool loungers for guests to lounge around on! Don’t forget to incorporate your favourite playlists too, but make sure to use a waterproof speaker!

Pool Party Lights

With the right kind of lighting, you can keep your pool party going long after the sun has set!

There’s plenty of lighting options to choose from, from candles and tiki torches to pre-installed pool lights, you’ll be able to radiate a beautiful evening atmosphere. Here at 1st Direct Pools, we stock some great swimming pool party lights, such as our GLOWB floating light set, perfect for pool parties!

If you choose to use electrical or string lights at your pool party, make sure they’re hung securely and not directly over the water. Make sure any extension leads are away from the pool, and any swimming pool lights should only be installed by a licenced pool professional.

Pool Party Games

No matter what kind of party you’re throwing, you need to make sure people are entertained. A great way to keep guests happy is with some fun pool party games! The same goes for pool parties.

If you like a bit of competition, why not equip your pool with a net or basketball hoop and play against one another in the water. Or, get into teams and race across the pool in relays or piggyback rides.

You can even have scavenger hunts in your pool by throwing pool safe objects that sink into the water for people to dive and find. A particularly fun scavenger game is filling an ordinary plastic bottle with pool water and watching people try and find it underwater.

Pool Party Food

All that swimming is bound to make people peckish, and a party isn’t a party without food!

Depending on your theme, you can serve pretty much whatever you like.

Since people are likely going to be getting in and out of the water, it’s best not to serve anything too heavy. Try a range of finger foods that are easy to grab and go with maybe a barbecue for the perfect summer set-up. You can even get creative by serving decorated cakes and fruits to help satisfy those sweet tooths!

Since you’re outside in the sun, make sure there’s plenty to drink on hand to avoid any dehydration!

Swimming Pool Safety

Now for the serious stuff.

Accidents happen, and when you’ve got triple the number of people than usual in and around your pool, the odds of something happening is only going to get higher. But don’t let that spoil the fun!

By following appropriate safety measures, you can be prepared for if the worst does happen. Let your guests know of any rules such as ‘no running’ or ‘no diving’ before the event, and make sure no children are unsupervised in or around the water.

There’s no better way for you to make the most of your pool this summer than with a pool party, and we hoped our guide helps you throw the best one possible!
