About the Orilux AXS
The Orilux AXS is a full inverter heat pump, and that's the key to why it's so cheap to run. A traditional on/off heat pump runs flat out until the pool is warm, switches off, then starts all over again when the temperature drops. The AXS doesn't work like that. It brings the pool up to temperature, then slows its compressor and fan right down and just ticks over, topping up the heat your pool loses. That's when a heat pump is at its most efficient, and it's also when it's quietest.
Inside there's a twin-rotary DC inverter compressor from Mitsubishi and a spiral titanium heat exchanger, which won't corrode in chlorine or salt water. The casing is aluminium alloy, so it won't rust sitting outside all year.
You choose how it runs. Turbo mode pushes output up to 120% for a fast warm-up at the start of the season. Smart mode is the everyday setting that balances speed and efficiency. Silence mode caps output at 60% for quiet running at night. The display shows how much power it's using in real time, so you can see exactly what it costs you.
It keeps heating in air temperatures down to -10°C, so it's a good choice for stretching your season into spring and autumn. You set the water temperature anywhere from 18°C to 40°C. It can also be wired to switch your filtration pump on whenever heat is needed, so the pump doesn't have to run when it doesn't need to.
We stock five single phase sizes, from the AXS55 for pools of around 41-55 m³ up to the AXS110 for pools up to 110 m³. If you're not sure which you need, try our heat pump calculator, read our heat pump sizing guide or call our tech team.

*Pool sizes assume the pool is covered when not in use and the filtration runs at least 15 hours a day. COP ranges run from part load (highest figure) to full load. If your pool is uncovered or you want to swim early and late in the season, go up a size.

What else you'll need
To get the best from your heat pump, have a look at these:
- A heat pump bypass kit lets you control the flow through the heat pump and isolate it for servicing. You'll need one if your pump moves more water than the heat pump's recommended flow.
- A solar pool cover is the single best way to cut your heating bill, because most of a pool's heat is lost from the surface. Use our solar cover calculator to price one.
- A heat pump cover protects the unit over winter.
- Flexi feet with a strut kit lift the unit off the ground and cut vibration.
- Pair it with a variable speed pool pump for a fully efficient system.
Â
Warranty
Orilux back the AXS with a 10 year warranty on the compressor and heat exchanger and 5 years on all other parts. After the first 12 months, the parts warranty covers parts only. The heat pump must be installed by a qualified installer and wired by an electrician with a 30mA RCD. Keep the unit clear of debris and drain it if it's going to be switched off over a frosty winter.

| Compressor | 10 years |
| Heat exchanger | 10 years |
| All other parts | 5 years (parts only after the first 12 months) |

Frequently asked questions
Â
Which Orilux AXS size do I need?
Start with your pool volume. The AXS55 suits pools of about 41-55 m³, the AXS60 up to 60 m³, the AXS75 51-75 m³, the AXS85 61-85 m³ and the AXS110 76-110 m³. Those figures assume a covered pool, so if yours isn't covered, or you want to swim in spring and autumn, choose one size up. Our heat pump calculator and tech team can help you decide.
Â
How much does it cost to run?
It depends on your pool, the weather and whether you use a cover. In mild spring weather (15°C air), the AXS produces between 4.3 and 7.5 kW of heat for every 1 kW of electricity. Once the pool is warm, it drops to low output, which is when it's most efficient. The real-time power display shows exactly what it's using.
Â
Will it work in cold weather?
Yes, it keeps heating in air temperatures down to -10°C. It will produce less heat and run less efficiently in very cold weather, but it's well suited to extending the season into spring and autumn.
Â
Is the AXS quiet?
At low output the AXS55 runs at 40.7 dB(A) from a metre away and around 20.7 dB(A) at 10 metres, about the same as a quiet fridge. Silence mode caps output at 60% for night-time running.
Â
Does it need a three phase supply?
No. All five sizes we stock run on a standard 230V single phase supply. Larger models need a bigger cable and breaker, so check the installation details table with your electrician.
Â
What's the difference between the AXS and the Orilux XP?
The AXS uses R32 refrigerant and covers pools from about 41 to 110 m³. The Orilux XP uses natural R290 refrigerant, keeps heating down to -20°C and comes in larger sizes for pools up to 105 m³. If you want the lowest-carbon option, or you plan to heat in colder weather, look at the XP.
