Shocking Chlorine News

Our friends across the pond have decided that the swimming pool industry is not to refer to it's main chlorine chemical as 'shock'. Widely refered to as chlorine shock within the pool industry all over the world the chemical CALCIUM HYPOCHLORITE is widely used to treat green pools and prevent future algae growth.

The US Enviromental Protection Agency (EPA) has changed its guidlines on labelling following its statement that "shock" is a pesticide claim and that the swimming pool product used in its stated application makes no biocidal claims and must only use the terms "shock oxidiser" or "oxidising shock" to qualify the function and the purpose of the chemical product.

Perhaps we'll see this imposed in the UK swimming pool market soon.
