Pool Troubling Shooting

This summer you may come across some of these common problems when you are trying to maintain your pool throughout the swimming season. Most problems can be corrected by following set procedures and also adding pool chemicals.

One of the main problems you may come across over the summer especially when the sun is shining is a green looking pool. In direct sunlight algae growth increases and your water could turn green in a day so it is important you first add long life algaecide when you open your pool and throughout the summer ensure your chlorine levels are correct.

If the pool water has gone cloudy then this could point to a built up of dirt/suspended particles i.e. dead algae so the first course of action would be to backwash the filter and super chlorinate the pool. If you havent changed the sand/glass filter media in your filter for 4 or more years then we would recommended this to be done as when backwashing the fine particles may not be removed effectively.

It is important to keep an eye on your PH level as not only can this cause sore eyes/throat but cause damage to your heat pump element by corrosion. We recommend you keep the ph level between 7.2 and 7.6. If the pH level is below this level then use Dry Alkali to increase the level or ifs too high then use dry acid to reduce the level.

If the pool walls build up with dirt we would recommend you use a special tile/liner cleaner to remove this and carefully go round the edges of the pool with a soft brush.
