About the Waterco Lacronite Pool Pump
The Lacronite is Waterco's answer to an old problem: your Sta-Rite 5P2R has finally given up and you don't want to start cutting pipework. It's built as a direct replacement for the 5P2R, so it lines up with your existing plumbing and you can swap it straight in.
It's a good pump in its own right too. It's aimed at larger domestic pools, especially ones running extras like heating, in-floor cleaning, fountains, a vacuum line or swim jets. The strainer pot and volute are moulded as one piece for strength, and there's a big 2.1 litre basket to keep debris away from the impeller.
One detail we like is the motor protection bracket. It puts a 60.5mm gap between the wet end and the motor, so if the mechanical seal ever starts to weep, the water drains away instead of running along the shaft into the motor. Seals are a wearing part on any pump, so that's a cheap bit of insurance.
The seal itself is 316 grade stainless, which copes well with chlorine, bromine, ozone, Baquacil and salt water. Five sizes are available from 0.5HP to 1.5HP, all single phase.

Warranty
Waterco give the Lacronite a 3 year conditional warranty, broken down as shown below. It needs to be fitted by a qualified installer and wired by a licensed electrician with a 30mA RCD. Running the pump dry or letting it freeze will void the cover. If you think you have a warranty problem, contact us before taking the pump apart.

Will the Lacronite fit where my old Sta-Rite 5P2R was?
Yes, that's exactly what it's designed for. Waterco built it as a direct replacement for the 5P2R so you don't need to alter the plumbing. Match the horsepower of your old pump and it should drop straight in.

What is the motor protection bracket for?
It's a 60.5mm gap between the pump's wet end and the motor. If the mechanical seal wears and starts to leak, the water drains out through the gap instead of tracking along the shaft into the motor bearings. It can save you a motor.

Is the Lacronite suitable for salt water pools?
Yes. The 316 stainless steel mechanical seal is chosen for its resistance to salt water chlorination as well as chlorine, bromine, ozone and Baquacil.

Which Lacronite should I choose?
Most domestic pools with a standard filter use the 0.75HP or 1HP. If you're also running a heat pump, in-floor cleaning or swim jets, the 1.25HP or 1.5HP gives you more in reserve. Tell us your pool size and what's on the system and we'll recommend one.

What should I do with the pump over winter?
If the pool is shut down for winter, drain the pump fully using the drain plugs and keep the plugs somewhere safe, such as inside the strainer basket. If you can, store the pump somewhere dry. Before restarting, check the seals and O-rings and make sure the motor shaft turns freely.
