How to Choose Pool Cover Anchors for Patio, Decking or Lawn
There are many different winter cover fixings options for winter covers as more and more pools are having unconventional pool surrounds such as decking or lawn. Here is a guide to help you pick the correct winter cover fixing:
- Patio - you can use the traditional spring anchor and p pin. Or you can use the Flush Fix for a smarter finish - this was designed for European countries where there is a legal requirement for flush fixings on the pool side.
- Decking - you can use the Brass Fixing for Decking.
- Lawn - If you have a cover which is going into a lawn/ gravel then you would require the lawn stakes.
Â
NB: For standard P Pins and Springs you will require a 7mm drill bit and for the
Flush fix brass inserts are 20mm. This should be the same for the hole.

Winter Pool Cover Fixings FAQs
Â
What are the different types of winter pool cover fixings?
There are three main types, depending on what surrounds your pool:
- Patio: spring anchors and P pins, or flush fix brass anchors for a neater finish.
- Decking: brass deck anchors.
- Lawn or gravel: lawn stakes.
We also stock replacement straps, buckles, rubber tensioners and water tubes.
Â
Which pool cover anchors should I use for a patio, decking or lawn?
- Patio: use the traditional spring anchor and P pin, or the flush fix brass pop up anchor if you want the fixing to sit level with the paving.
- Decking: use the brass deck anchor fixing set.
- Lawn or gravel: use the lawn stake and spring.
Â
What size drill bit do I need for pool cover anchors?
- Standard P pins and springs: a 7mm drill bit.
- Flush fix brass inserts: these are 20mm, so drill a 20mm hole.
Â
Do flush pool cover anchors use screws?
Yes. Flush fix and brass deck anchors have an internal screw, which you tighten with a 1/4" hex key. This keeps the anchor secure while leaving a flush finish on the pool surround.
Â
Can I use pool cover pegs on grass?
Yes. If your winter cover fixes into lawn or gravel, use our pool cover lawn stakes. Each one comes with a spring to keep the cover under tension.
Â
Can I buy replacement winter pool cover straps and buckles?
Yes. You can buy stainless steel strap buckles on their own, extra plastic buckles on straps (sold per buckle) and rubber tensioners for winter debris covers. That means you can repair a worn cover rather than replace it.
