Quick™ 15- Minute Bacteria (2 Tests)

The Quick™ 15-Minute Bacteria (2 Tests) is designed to test water samples for the presence or absence of total coliforms and E. coli. The kit uses a colour-change method to identify total coliforms, alongside a UV light check to indicate the presence of E. coli.

How Does the Test Work?

The test involves adding a water sample to the bottle, dissolving the test media and leaving the sample to incubate before checking the results.

How To Use The Quick™ 15- Minute Bacteria (2 Tests)

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Remove the cap without touching its inside, then carefully fill the bottle with water up to the shoulder. Do not overfill or spill.
  3. Securely replace the cap and shake the bottle vigorously until the media has dissolved. The solution should be clear yellow, although it may be less clear with turbid samples.
  4. Leave the sample to incubate in a dark, undisturbed place away from direct sunlight. Incubate for 24 hours at 36 ± 2°C (97 ± 4°F) or 48 hours at 25°C (77°F ± 5°F).
  5. Reading the Results

Checking for Total Coliforms

Once the incubation period is complete, check the colour of the sample to determine whether total coliforms are present.

Clear yellow – Negative: No coliforms detected by the test.
Blue-green – Positive: Coliforms detected in the sample.

Checking for E. coli

To check for E. coli, use a UV light at approximately 365nm, shining it from the bottom of the bottle. Avoid looking directly at the UV light.

No fluorescence – Negative: No E. coli detected by the test.
Blue fluorescence – Positive: E. coli detected in the sample.

How To Test For E. coli

Use a UV light at approximately 365nm, shining it from the bottom of the bottle. Avoid looking directly at the light.

No fluorescence: Negative for E. coli.
Blue fluorescence: Positive for E. coli.

Storage Instructions: Store the Quick™ 15-Minute Bacteria test kit in a cool, dry place between 2°C and 27°C, away from direct sunlight.
