Halo Chlorine Shock Granules

Keeping pool water clear isn’t just about topping up chlorine. Over time, pools collect contaminants from swimmers, leaves, sunscreen, rainwater and general debris, which can leave the water cloudy, harder to manage, or give off that strong chlorine smell. Halo Chlorine Shock Granules are designed to deal with that by giving your pool a fast chlorine boost when it needs it most.

Made with Calcium Hypochlorite, these non-stabilised chlorine shock granules are used to quickly raise chlorine levels, helping clear contaminated or tired pool water. They’re suitable for routine shock treatments as part of regular maintenance, or when your pool needs extra attention after heavy use, hot weather or the early signs of algae.

What are Chlorine Shock Granules?

Chlorine shock granules are a concentrated chlorine treatment used to rapidly sanitise swimming pool water. Unlike your everyday chlorine tablets or stabilised chlorine products, shock granules are designed to act quickly, helping break down waste in the water and restore proper sanitiser levels.

Because this is a non-stabilised chlorine product, it won’t keep increasing cyanuric acid levels with repeated use. That makes it a sensible option if your stabiliser levels are already where they should be, or if you’re trying to avoid chlorine lock.

Why Use Chlorine Shock Granules

Even a well-maintained pool can struggle to stay balanced during busy periods. More swimmers, warmer temperatures and bad weather all put extra strain on your water chemistry.

Shock dosing helps by:

  • Raising chlorine levels quickly
  • Breaking down organic contamination
  • Helping clear dull or cloudy water
  • Reducing chloramines that cause strong chlorine smells
  • Supporting algae prevention
  • Restoring cleaner, fresher water

For many pool owners, shocking the pool weekly or fortnightly forms part of normal maintenance, particularly during the swimming season.

How to Use Chlorine Shock Granules

Before adding any pool chemicals, always test your water and make sure your pH is in the correct range.

Application Instructions:

  • 1. Maintain pH levels within the ideal range of 7.2 - 7.6. If the level is not in this range, adjust with pH Plus or pH Minus
  • 2. Maintain free chlorine residuals routinely in the 1-3mg/|(ppm) range. Shock or oxidising procedures are recommended either weekly or fortnightly with a maximum of 10 mg/|(ppm) for a complete shock treatment.
  • 3. Pre-dissolve this product in a clean plastic container at a maximum rate of 100g of product per 2.2 gallons (10 litres) of water. Stir well to ensure the product is fully dissolved. Add the resulting solution to the pool while the pump(s) are turned on, preferably near the water inlets, to aid distribution.
  • 4. Repeat dose/application if necessary to achieve the desired level.
  • 5. After using this product, pool water may become temporarily cloudy, so keep the filtration pump running until it runs clear.
  • 6. After shock treatment procedures, allow the chlorine to drop below 5 ppm before bathing recommences, and in any event, wait for at least 30 minutes before bathing recommences.

Important Safety Information

General Precautions - Dosing

  • Wear eye and face protection and ensure granules are not blown back into your face.
  • Never mix with other chemicals, including cleaning procedures and chlorine products, as a dangerous reaction may occur.
  • Do not pour this product into a pool skimmer basket containing chlorine tablets or other products.
  • When pre-dissolving product, always add to water, not vice versa.

Handling/Storage - Important

  • Handle products in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • Ensure chemicals do not become damp in storage - store in a cool, dry place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I shock my pool with shock granules or liquid?

Both liquid chlorine and chlorine granules are equally effective for sanitising your pools, but the choice depends on your pool requirements. Liquid shock is faster, easier to add and ideal for quick algae fixes whereas granular shock is better for convenience, long-term storage, high concentrations and deep cleaning. Just be careful in vinyl liner pools as granules that aren't dissolved before adding to the pool will bleach the liner

How long should I wait to swim after shocking my pool?

You should wait until chlorine levels drop bellow 5 ppm before swimming. As a minimum, allow at least 30 minutes after treatment, but always test the water first to make sure levels are safe.

Whats the difference between shock granules and regular chlorine?

The main difference is stabiliser. Chlorine Shock Granules (Calcium Hypochlorite) are non-stabilised, meaning they do not contain cyanuric acid. This makes them fast acting and ideal for quickly raising chlorine levels to deal with contamination, cloudy water or algae problems.

Stabilised chlorine contains cyanuric acid, which helps protect chlorine from being broken down by sunlight (UV rays). This means the chlorine lasts longer in the water, making stabilised products a popular choice for everyday sanitising and maintaining routine chlorine levels.
