About the Pentair La Sta-Rite (5P2R) Pool Pump
If you've had a pool in the UK for any length of time, there's a fair chance a Sta-Rite 5P2R has been sat in your plant room at some point. It's been the go-to pump for domestic pools for decades, and the current Pentair La Sta-Rite is the version of that pump being built today, at Pentair's own factory in Pisa, Italy.
It's a simple, tough single speed pump. The glass-reinforced body handles pressure well, the stainless steel locking clamp means you can get into the wet end in minutes, and the extra-large strainer basket lets you go longer between emptying it. The high head impellers are a real help where the plant room is a long way from the pool and the pipe runs are long.
You can choose from 0.5HP up to 1.5HP, in single phase (230V) or three phase (400V). Both ports are 1.5" BSP and 50mm unions come in the box. It's also happy on salt chlorinated pools up to 0.4% salt (4 g/l).
Not sure which size you need? Send us your pool volume and the distance to the plant room and our tech team will point you at the right model.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Pentair La Sta-Rite the same as the Sta-Rite 5P2R?
It's the current version of the same pump. Pentair now own Sta-Rite, and the La Sta-Rite is what replaced the 5P2R. Power ratings match and the ports are still 1.5" BSP, so in most plant rooms it's a straightforward swap. Use the table above to find the model that matches your old one.
Â
What size La Sta-Rite do I need for my pool?
As a rough guide, you want to turn over the whole pool volume in about 6 to 8 hours. A 50 m³ pool needs roughly 7 to 8 m³/h, so the 0.5HP or 0.75HP would usually cover it. Pipe length, filter size and any extras like solar panels or a heat pump all add resistance, so give our tech team a call if you're between sizes.
Â
Can I use the La Sta-Rite on a salt water pool?
Yes. Pentair rate it for salt levels up to 0.4% (4 g/l), which covers most salt chlorinator setups. The motor shaft has a stainless drive end and the body is corrosion resistant.
Â
Can the pump sit above the pool water level?
Yes, it's self-priming and will lift water up to 2.5 m. Fill the strainer pot with water before the first start and check the lid O-ring is clean and lubricated, otherwise it'll struggle to prime.
Â
Do I need a single phase or three phase pump?
Almost every UK home has a single phase 230V supply, so the single phase models (part numbers ending in 1) are the ones most people need. Three phase is mainly for commercial sites and larger properties with a 400V supply. If you're not sure, your electrician can tell you in a minute.
