About the Orilux XP R290
The Orilux XP is built for bigger pools and for owners who want the greenest heat pump they can buy. Instead of a synthetic refrigerant, it runs on R290 (propane), a natural refrigerant with a global warming potential of just 0.02. Compare that with 675 for R32, the most common pool heat pump refrigerant today. As tighter refrigerant rules come in across Europe, R290 is where the industry is heading, so the XP is a heat pump you won't need to worry about in years to come.
It's also very capable in cold weather. The XP keeps heating in air temperatures down to -20°C, and even at 7°C the AX26-105P still puts out 17.7 kW. That makes it a strong choice if you open your pool early, close it late, or heat all year round.
Like all true inverter heat pumps, it adjusts its output to match what your pool needs. Turbo mode pushes up to 130% for a fast warm-up. Smart mode runs between 20% and 100% for everyday efficiency. Silence mode holds it at 60% or less for quiet running at night. Once the pool is up to temperature, the twin-rotary DC inverter compressor slows right down, which is where the efficiency really shows: a COP of over 14 at half output in warm weather.
The heat exchanger is titanium, so it's suitable for salt water and chlorinated pools, and the casing is aluminium alloy. It can be controlled over Wi-Fi from your phone, and it can switch your filtration pump on whenever heat is needed.
We stock two single phase sizes: the AX26-90P (21.7 kW, 26 kW in Turbo) and the AX26-105P (26.6 kW, 32 kW in Turbo). For smaller pools, have a look at the Orilux AXS range.

What else you'll need
- A heat pump bypass kit lets you set the flow through the heat pump and isolate it for servicing.
- A solar pool cover keeps the heat in the water. Without one, you can lose more heat overnight than the heat pump puts in during the day. Use our solar cover calculator to price one.
- A heat pump cover protects the unit when it isn't in use.
- Pair it with a variable speed pool pump for a fully efficient system.

Warranty
Orilux back the XP R290 with a 10 year warranty on the compressor and heat exchanger and 5 years on all other parts. After the first 12 months, the parts warranty covers parts only. The heat pump must be installed by a qualified installer and wired by an electrician with a 30mA RCD. Keep the unit clear of debris and drain it if it's going to be switched off over a frosty winter.

| Heat exchanger | 10 years |
| All other parts | 5 years (parts only after the first 12 months) |

 Frequently asked questions
Â
What is R290 and why does it matter?
R290 is propane, used as a natural refrigerant. It has a global warming potential (GWP) of 0.02, compared with 675 for R32, which most pool heat pumps use. European rules are phasing out high-GWP refrigerants, so an R290 heat pump is the future-proof choice. It's also very efficient.
Â
Which Orilux XP size do I need?
The AX26-90P suits pools of about 55-90 m³ and the AX26-105P suits 65-105 m³. Those sizes assume a covered pool. For smaller pools, the Orilux AXS range starts at 41 m³. Our heat pump calculator and tech team can help you choose.
Â
Will the XP heat my pool in winter?
It will keep heating in air temperatures down to -20°C. At 7°C air, the AX26-105P still produces 17.7 kW. You'll need a good cover to hold the heat in cold weather, but the XP is well suited to long seasons and year-round heating.
Â
What does COP mean?
COP (coefficient of performance) is the heat you get out for every unit of electricity you put in. A COP of 7 means 7 kW of heat for 1 kW of electricity. The XP's COP is highest at part output in warm weather, over 14 at half output in 26°C air, and lower when it's working hard in cold weather.
Â
Is the XP quiet?
Yes. At low output it runs at about 41 dB(A) from a metre away and 21 dB(A) at 10 metres. Silence mode limits output to 60% for night-time running.
Â
Does the XP need a three phase supply?
No, both models run on 230V single phase. They do draw a lot of current (up to 25.8 A), so your electrician will need to fit the right cable and breaker. See the installation details table above.
