Frequently Asked F&Qs
What is the difference between stabilised and unstabilised chlorine?
Stabilised chlorine contains cyanuric acid (CYA), which helps protect chlorine from being broken down by sunlight, making it ideal for ongoing maintenance. Unstabilised chlorine does not contain CYA, meaning it acts much faster but is consumed more quickly. This makes unstabilised chlorine better suited for shock treatments and resolving water quality issues.
When should you use unstabilised chlorine?
Unstabilised chlorine should be used when your pool water is green, cloudy, or contaminated, as it delivers a rapid increase in active chlorine. It is also ideal for shock treatments, after heavy pool use, or following periods of hot weather or rainfall when water balance may be affected.
Why should you use unstabilised chlorine?
Unstabilised chlorine works quickly to restore water clarity and hygiene without adding additional stabiliser to the pool. This helps prevent cyanuric acid build-up, which can reduce chlorine effectiveness over time. It is an effective solution for quickly correcting water problems and maintaining proper sanitation.
How often should I use unstabilised chlorine?
Unstabilised chlorine is typically used as needed rather than on a fixed schedule. It is commonly applied for shock treatment when water issues arise, but can also be used periodically as part of a maintenance routine, depending on pool usage and water conditions. Regular water testing will help determine when it is required.
