Using Swimming Pool Chlorine Granules

Chlorine granules are an important part of your pool maintenance routine as they’re designed to disinfect your water and keep it sanitised over time. Spa and pool chlorine granules are fast-dissolving, helping increase your chlorine levels quickly to get your water quality back on track.

They provide a particularly convenient method for dosing your pool water, as you can easily adjust the dosage depending on your needs and the pool’s volume.

Fine-grade chlorine granules should be pre-dissolved in water before being added to your pool. Make sure you always add the granules to water rather than pouring water on the granules, as this may cause a reaction. Test your water before and after applying chlorine granules to ensure you add the right amount of product and continue to maintain it at the correct levels. The ideal chlorine range should read:

Pools: 1 - 3 mg/l (ppm)

Spas: 3 - 5 mg/l (ppm)

You should also maintain a pH in the range of 7.2-7.6 to ensure the chlorine functions effectively.

Stabilised Chlorine Granules

Stabilised pool chlorine granules contain cyanuric acid, which helps prevent chlorine loss due to the sun. Without the stabiliser, UV rays would break down the chlorine more rapidly and make it ineffective in your pool, meaning the water could not be properly sanitised.

Buying stabilised chlorine granules means you won’t have to add the cyanuric acid separately

Pool Chlorine Granules Dosage

Use 2g of granules to raise pool water chlorine levels by 1 ppm in 1000 litres (220 gallons) of water.
