How Do Pool Salt Chlorinators Work?

Salt chlorinators turn salt into chlorine through electrolysis. The electrodes strip the chlorine atom out of the salt, effectively introducing chlorine into your pool that will kill contaminants and keep the water sanitised.

The sun will turn sodium hypochlorite back into salt, so the cycle can begin again. This means you can keep your water’s chlorine levels up without any intervention or the need to keep manually adding chlorine

To ensure there is enough salt to maintain the cleanliness of your water, the salt concentration will need to be around 3,000ppm. You will only need to add this salt once as it goes through the continuous cycle of salt to chlorine to salt and so on.

The Benefits of Salt Chlorination

There are several benefits to using salt chlorination systems over adding swimming pool chemicals to keep your water disinfected:

  • - Reduced skin irritation to those sensitive to traditional pool chemicals.
  • - Reduced maintenance as you won’t have to add sanitising chemicals.
  • - More cost-efficient as you won’t have to buy chemicals regularly.
  • - Safer as you won’t have to store chlorine.
